There are many kinds of metal mechanical parts, so there are many kinds of machine tools for processing machinery. Small machines can be installed directly on the workbench, while larger machines even require the construction of a dedicated workshop. But no matter how the complexity of mechanical parts and the size of machine tools vary, in the industry, metalworking is also the following five basic methods:

1. Drilling

Drilling is the process of drilling a hole in solid metal. During drilling, the casting is at rest and all movement is done by the drill. Drilling uses a rotary drill called a twist drill. Typically, a rig should perform two movements at the same time: the main movement and the auxiliary movement.

The main motion is the rotary motion of the drill bit around the axis, also known as cutting motion; the auxiliary motion is the linear motion of the drill bit to the casting in the axial direction, also known as the feed motion.

2. Turning and boring

Turning is the process of removing metal from castings. During machining, the casting rotates as the tool cuts into the casting or performs a turning operation along the edge of the casting.

Boring is a machining method for enlarging existing or cast holes in metal castings. It is done by rotating and feeding a single edge tool.

3. Milling

Milling is the process of removing metal using a rotating tool. Machining tools used for milling have multiple cutting edges, and their professional name is a milling cutter.

4. Grinding

The process of removing metal using a tool called a grinding wheel is called grinding. Ordinary grinding is the last finishing step in the process of hot working hard objects. After processing, the size of the casting has reached a relatively accurate level and the surface is smooth.

There are different methods for grinding different shapes of castings.

When grinding round castings, the grinding wheel does not move, but the casting rotates and feeds the grinding wheel; when grinding flat castings, the casting moves back and forth under the rotating grinding wheel. The process is actually the same grinding action we see every day. consistent

5. Grooving

Planing is divided into bull head planing and gantry planing. Both are reciprocating motion between the cutter and the casting, but the planer feeds the casting into the cutter, the planer is the opposite. The burr broach has multiple teeth and can be used for internal and external machining of special shapes.

The process of ploughing is similar to that of bulldozing, except that the cutter moves up and down. The specific mode of operation of the tool varies by casting type and is broadly divided into straight and circular arcs.

Although the machining of metal machinery requires extreme precision, it still consists of various basic operations. Therefore, for the machining of metal mechanical parts, basic operations are very important.
